Un team internazionale di astronomi che fanno parte del Progetto di Esplorazione Strategica di Pianeti Extrasolari e Dischi con il Telescopio Subaru (SEMI), ha utilizzato strumenti di alto contrasto dello stesso Telescopio Subaru (Next Generation Adaptive Optics – HiCIAO), per osservare un disco intorno alla giovane stella RY Tau (Tauri).
L’analisi condotta dalla squadra di lavoro sul disco, mostra che uno strato “soffice” di cui sopra vediamo una ricostruzione, è responsabile della luce diffusa osservata nell’immagine termica. Il dettaglio, rispetto a simulazioni effettuate al computer della luce diffusa dal disco, rivelano che questo strato sembra essere un residuo di materiale da una fase precedente di sviluppo stellare, quando la polvere e gas cadevano sul disco stesso.
An international team of astronomers that are members of the Strategic Exploration of Exoplanets and Disks with Subaru Telescope (SEEDS) Project has used Subaru Telescope’s High Contrast Instrument for the Subaru Next Generation Adaptive Optics (HiCIAO) to observe a disk around the young star RY Tau (Tauri).
The team’s analysis of the disk shows that a “fluffy” layer above it is responsible for the scattered light observed in the infrared image. Detailed comparisons with computer simulations of scattered light from the disk reveal that this layer appears to be a remnant of material from an earlier phase of stellar and disk development, when dust and gas were falling onto the disk.
