Questa meravigliosa immagine mostra il tenue chiarore della nostra Via Lattea osservata in primavera, da Beaghmore County (nei pressi di Tyrone) in Irlanda del Nord.
Beaghmore è un importante sito neolitico. Vista la posizione di questo sito i cieli notturni sono piuttosto bui. Questa località si trova all’estremo nord, in alto, come alle ore 12:00 pensando alle lancette di un orologio. La Via Lattea è visibile e si estende attraverso il cielo tra circa l’1:00 e le 5:00. La nostra galassia a spirale contiene più di 100 miliardi di stelle, ma per gran parte di questo scintillio è attenuato da nubi di polvere interstellare, che rende più “morbida” la visuale, non abbagliando gli occhi durante l’osservazione.
The image above shows the soft glow of the Milky Way as observed in early spring from Beaghmore County (near Tyrone) in Northern Ireland.
Beaghmore is an important Neolithic site. Because it’s fairly remote, nighttime skies here are quite dark. On this view, north is at top or 12:00 on the hands of a clock. The Milky Way stretches across the sky between about 1:00 and 5:00. Our spiral galaxy contains more than 100 billion stars, but because much of this starlight is attenuated by interstellar dust clouds, it doesn’t dazzle the eye.
