The planet 55 Cancri e was first discovered in 2004 and is not a habitable world. Instead, it is known as a super-Earth because of its size: The world is about twice the width of Earth and has about eight times the mass of Earth. But until now, scientists have never managed to detect the infrared light from the super-Earth world.

Una super-Terra che dista 41 anni luce dal nostro pianeta con rocce e acqua in superficie. È la prima luce di un pianeta alieno. L’ha raccolta il telescopio spaziale Spitzer della Nasa e viene emessa da una super-Terra che ruota attorno alla stella 55 Cancri in 18 ore, lontana da noi 41 anni luce. Il pianeta che porta la sigla “55 Cancri e” era già stato scoperto diventando noto per le sue caratteristiche che lo descrivevano come un pianeta roccioso con acqua in superficie in uno stato supercritico tra il liquido e il gassoso.
