Una forte tempesta geomagnetica G3 (Kp = 7) è in corso a cavallo fra il 28-29 Giugno, a causa dell’attraversamento della Terra di una regione interessata dal magnetismo del vento solare. Ad alta latitudine gli osservatori del cielo potrebbero doversi tenere pronti per bellissime aurore.
Nell’emisfero settentrionale, il solstizio crepuscolare riduce drasticamente la visibilità; mentre gli osservatori dell’emisfero meridionale potrebbero avere più fortuna. Il 28 Giugno è iniziato con un doppio flare solare. I campi magnetici relativi alle macchie solari AR1777 e AR1778 si sono attivati in rapida successione producendo due brillamenti di classe C (C4, C7). Una espulsione di massa coronale (CME) che è emersa dal luogo dell’esplosione, sembra essere diretta verso la Terra, anche se non precisamente. L’analisi di questo complesso evento è ancora in corso. E’ possibile che il campo magnetico terrestre riceverà un colpo di striscio dalla CME intorno al 30 giugno. L’impatto potrebbe attivare tempeste geomagnetiche di minore intensità. A G3 strong (Kp=7) geomagnetic storm is in progress on June 28-29 as Earth passes through a region of south-pointing magnetism in the solar wind. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.
In the northern hemisphere, solstice twilight will sharply reduce visibility; southern hemisphere observers may have better luck. June 28th began with a double solar flare. Magnetic fields around sunspots AR1777 and AR1778 erupted in quick succession between 0130 UT and 0345 UT, producing two C-class (C4, C7) flares. A CME emerging from the sprawling blast site appears to be heading for Earth, although not squarely. An analysis of this complicated event is still underway. It is possible that Earth’s magnetic field will receive a glancing blow from the CME on or about June 30th. The impact could cause minor geomagnetic storms. Stay tuned for updates.
