Un filamento magnetico instabile sulla parte del Sole che guarda verso la Terra, si è verificato durante le prime ore di oggi 12 maggio. La sonda della NASA, il Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), ha registrato l’esplosione. L’eruzione che ha generato il filamento non ha provocato un brillamento solare significativo, ma ne ha fatto scagliare una parte dello stesso nello spazio. La sonda SOHO ha fotografato la luminosa espulsione di massa coronale (CME) che emerge dal luogo dell’esplosione. La CME potrebbe sfiorare il campo magnetico terrestre il 15 maggio. An unstable filament of magnetism on the Earthside of the sun erupted during the early hours of May 12th. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the blast. The erupting filament did not spark a significant solar flare (that is, there was no strong flash of X-radiation), but it did hurl part of itself into space. SOHO photographed a bright coronal mass ejection (CME) emerging from the blast site: movie. The CME could deliver a slight, glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field on May 15th.
