The Perseids are one of the most prolific and best-known of the meteor showers and can be seen in late July and through August each year, with the maximum activity on or around 12/13 August. One advantage of the Perseids shower is that it happens in the warmer weather of Summer, which makes it ideal for anyone interested in seeing their first meteor. You can see a meteor at any time of year but, for a day or so around the date of maximum, there may be a ten times better chance of seeing one.

Non solo San Lorenzo, stelle cadenti estate 2012
La tradizione indica il 10 Agosto come notte migliore per l’osservazione dello sciame meteorico delle Perseidi, chiamate famigliarmente “lacrime di San Lorenzo”, ma la massima attività si è in realtà spostata nella notte tra il 12 ed il 13 Agosto, è sempre utile ricordare che si possono osservare, in numero minore, da fine Luglio ad oltre la metà di Agosto. Il 2012 è un anno favorevole per l’osservazione di questo “spettacolo celeste”. La Luna a pochi giorni dall’ultimo quarto sorgerà a notte molto inoltrata e la sua piccola fase non disturberà la visione delle meteore più deboli. Nel momento di massima attività è prevista la visibilità di oltre 50 meteore all’ora.
